The comeback???

My best runs/races were in from March-May 2011. It’s only now, 2 years later that I’m getting close to the PBs I set during that period.

In March 2011, I ran my fastest 10K at Eastleigh in 49:49 and in May 2011, I ran my fastest parkrun in 23:53.

Since then, through a range of injury, putting on weight and poor training, I’ve struggled to regain those levels of performance. However, this year to date, I’ve knuckled down, lost a stone, run 4 times a week and followed more of a training plan.

That’s lead to almost returning to form. Last Sunday, I ran the Eastleigh 10K in 50:03 (14 seconds slower than my PB) and today I ran the hillier of the Southampton parkrun courses in 24:19.

Much of my focus can be attributed to 2 things:

  • MarathonTalk challenge
  • Withings Wifi scales

I am confident that in the next 3 months, I shall attain PBs at both of these distances. In fact, a PB could have been possible today had I not done a half-marathon distance training run on Thursday.

I need to set myself a weekly challenge to keep me focused for April, May and June so here goes:

Week commencing:
April 1: 4 runs, longest run 10 miles
April 8: 4 runs, longest run 12 miles
April 15: 4 runs, longest run 13 miles
April 22: 4 runs, longest run 14 miles
April 29: 4 runs, longest run: 14 miles

May 6: 4 runs, longest run 15 miles
May 13: 4 runs, longest run 8 miles + 10K PB
May 20: 4 runs, longest run 15 miles
May 27: rest week

June 3: 4 runs, longest run 14 miles
June 10: 4 runs, longest run 15 mile
June 17: 4 runs, longest run 16 mile
June 24: 4 runs, longest run 8 mile

That’s the idea anyway!!
